A bridge near Lemont is closed until the fall for a bridge rehabilitation project to improve its ride quality, extend its service life and improve its overall condition.

The bridge on Elmwood Street, which spans U.S. Route 322 near the Route 26-State College exit in College Township, closed on Monday for construction work and will remain closed through the summer.

A detour using Pike Street and Route 26 will be in place during the closure. PennDOT expects the bridge to reopen in mid-September, although all work is weather dependent.

“Work on this bridge includes concrete beam and deck repairs, installation of reinforcement bars and new strip seals, an epoxy overlay, approach paving, pavement marking, and miscellaneous construction,” a release from PennDOT states.

H&P Construction Inc. of Kulpmont is the contractor for the $1.4 million project and the contract included two other Centre County bridges. Work on a bridge on Route 504 spanning Wallace Run in Boggs Township was done last year and repairs to a Route 26 bridge, spanning Route 322, were done last week, PennDOT said.
