2 people transported to hospital after crash that closed part of Atherton Street
A section of a busy State College area street was shut down for nearly two hours Monday afternoon due to a three-vehicle crash, where two drivers were transported to the Mount Nittany Medical Center by ambulance.
North Atherton Street, between Valley Vista Drive and Colonnade Boulevard in Patton Township, closed around 1 p.m., the Centre County 9-1-1 office posted on Facebook. The roadway reopened around 2:30 p.m.
According to a news release from the Patton Township Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene at 12:26 p.m. Monday. A vehicle was trying to make a left turn from a parking lot onto North Atherton Street when it was struck by a vehicle traveling on the road.
The vehicle then drifted on North Atherton Street where it was struck by another vehicle, the release states. Two drivers went to the hospital; the third driver was not injured, according to the release.
Traffic was backed up in the area after the roadway reopened, Patton Township said in a Facebook post, and asked drivers to use extra caution and drive slowly.
Along with the Patton Township Police Department, the Ferguson Township Police, Centre Lifelink Ambulance, Alpha Fire Company, Alpha Fire Police and the state department of transportation assisted at the scene.
