Transformer fire knocks out power to hundreds in downtown State College

Hundreds in downtown State College lost power late Thursday night after a transformer fire.

As of 10 p.m., about 1,300 West Penn Power customers were without power in State College. West Penn Power listed an estimated restoration time of 12:30 a.m.

In a Facebook post, Centre County 911 wrote that more than 100 calls came in after a transformer fire in the area of the Rise apartment building at 532 E. College Ave. Alpha Fire Company was dispatched to the scene just before 9 p.m., and Centre County 911 wrote that the power company was enroute.

West Penn Power customers can report outages online or text “OUT” to 544487.
