A new three-week running and biking event is coming to Happy Valley this fall, with races and activities designed for people of all ages.
The inaugural Happy Valley Town Series Run and Bike Races will take place at Tussey Mountain on Wednesday, Sept. 24, and the next two Wednesdays — Oct. 1 and 8.
The series is hosted by the Outdoor Adventure Collective, a group dedicated to promoting outdoor recreation and community engagement in Centre County through inclusive, family-friendly events that inspire health and adventure.
The event will feature “short-course trail running and biking races for all ages, a vibrant tent expo with local vendors, live music and delicious food” under the floodlights of Tussey Mountain, according to a press release.
Race participants can choose to run, bike or both at their own pace, which is intended to encourage people of all ages to compete or cheer. No elecronic bikes can take part in the race, no places will be awarded and each rider’s time will be displayed on a jumbotron.
The tent expo will feature live music from area bands, food from vendors and trucks and stands featuring local nonprofits and outdoor groups.
“We’re excited to bring Happy Valley together for this unique event,” event organizer Josh Stapelton said in the release. “The Town Series celebrates outdoor adventure, health and community spirit, with races and an expo that welcomes all ages to connect through friendly, competitive racing and have fun under the lights.”
The first races will kick off at 5:30 p.m. and run until 8 p.m., concurrent with the community expo.
Participants can register for the race online, with all age groups paying a flat $15 fee. The payment is valid for all three Town Series events.
