Next phase of State College’s Calder Way project set to begin. What to know
The second phase of State College’s Calder Way improvement project will begin Tuesday, with construction taking place on Calder Way between South Fraser to South Atherton streets, the borough said.
Construction is expected from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursdays, with some work occurring on Fridays due to weather. Some special events will have no construction during them, including Thon weekend, PSU Student Days and move-in.
The project includes utility improvements, including sanitary sewer, stormwater piping, water, gas, electric, telecommunication systems, and the removal of any previously abandoned lines, the borough said in a press release.
“In the early days of construction, businesses and residents will see paint marks on the ground marking the location of utilities, this will occur repeatedly and is required by law,” the release states. “The contractor will be installing site fencing, performing test holes, saw cutting pavement, and staging tools, equipment, and materials such as stone and trench boxes.”
Wayfinding signs will be installed to help direct customers to businesses safely, the borough said. To receive weekly updates on the project, the community can subscribe to the borough’s construction updates notifications list. Information about the project will also be posted on the project webpage at statecollegepa.civilspace.io/en/projects/calder-way-improvements-projects. Questions can be directed to Tristan Klinefelter, State College’s Calder Way public relations representative, at tklinefelter@statecollegepa.us or 814-680-4468.
The initial phases of the project focus on critical infrastructure replacement and upgrades, the release states, while upcoming phases will focus on improving pedestrian and bicyclist accessibility.
