Ferguson Township is on the hunt for a new manager, and is turning toward its residents to gauge what qualities they’d like to see in the future head administrator.

As part of the search, the township has partnered with MGT Impact Solutions, LLC to develop a community impact survey, according to a Friday press release. The survey will gather resident feedback on what characteristics, skills and leadership qualities they’d like to see in the next manager.

Residents can take the “brief and accessible” survey on a voluntary basis, and it’s offered both online and in-person — the paper copy can be picked up at the township’s municipal building, at 3147 Research Drive.

Those who do take the survey will be asked 14 questions, such as what type of leader they’d prefer the manager to be, what management style they’d like to see, which abilities are important for the manager to possess and more.

“The township manager serves as the township’s chief executive and administrative officer, responsible for overseeing daily operations, leading staff, implementing the policies of the board of supervisors and ensuring the delivery of high-quality municipal services that support Ferguson Township’s strong quality of life,” the release states.

The township’s interim manager is Tom King, a former State College Police Department chief who recently served as the interim head of Ferguson Township’s police department.

The manager’s position has been vacant since Jan. 6, when former manager Centrice Martin’s contract with the township ran out.

Martin announced her decision to step down in early December, and added on her LinkedIn page shortly after that her time spent with the township was an “extraordinary chapter” of her life. She was hired as the township manager in 2022 after several other roles with the township.

Residents have until Feb. 3 to complete the survey.

After it closes, the township’s supervisors and MGT Impact Solutions will move forward with its selection process, although no timeline has been given for when a new manager could be hired.
