State College borough government, Centre Region COG affected by cybersecurity attack
The State College borough suffered a cybersecurity attack Wednesday but its information and technology division “acted quickly” to stop it, the borough said in a release.
The Centre Region Council of Governments — which contracts with the borough for IT services — is also impacted, Ben Estell, executive director of COG, said in an email to the CDT. The COG building, located at 2643 Gateway Drive, State College, is closed until further notice.
Although the attack has been stopped, it will still take several days to review and recover, the borough said. The borough building at 243 S. Allen St., State College, will remain open. Borough telephone lines are also working.
“Due to the attack impacting the Borough’s network, the community can expect a delay in staff responding to emails,” the borough’s release said.
The borough said more information will be released when it becomes available.
