Woman flown to hospital after crash at busy intersection near State College

A woman was flown to a hospital Tuesday for treatment of life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash at a busy intersection near State College.

The crash happened about 1:55 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Benner Pike and Stocker Drive in College Township.

State College police Capt. Greg Brauser said a man driving a Chevrolet Equinox was heading southbound and then turned left in front of a northound utility pickup truck, which slammed into the passenger’s side of the SUV.

Geisinger Life Flight flew the woman to UPMC Williamsport. The man driving the SUV was transported via ambulance to Mount Nittany Medical Center. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, Brauser said.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, Brauser said. The crash remains under investigation.

The 500 block of Benner Pike, near Perkins and Aldi, was closed for nearly two hours. It reopened to traffic by about 3:40 p.m. Traffic had been rerouted to East College Avenue.
