Arby’s demolition underway, makes room for The Metropolitan in State College

Demolition crews began tearing down the former Arby’s restaurant at West College Avenue and South Atherton Street on Tuesday morning.

The demolition will make way for The Metropolitan, a 12-story mixed-use high-rise being built by State College developer Ara Kervandjian.

The Metropolitan will be a 146-foot building that will dominate the downtown skyline and house a mix of retail, office and event space, and student and nonstudent housing.

Plans call for retail space on the first floor, high-grade office space on the second floor, student housing on the next seven, nonstudent units on the following two floors and nonstudent housing and event space on the top level.
