Parks Miller calls on public for information about woman found along road
Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller clutched a picture of the woman found dead Sunday along a Pine Grove Mills Road, pleading before cameras for anyone with information to come forward.
“Since we were able to identify the woman in Pine Grove Mills we wanted to put a name to the face, while we ask for help,” Parks Miller said at a press conference Thursday
The woman was identified Wednesday as Corinne Pena. She was 35 when she died Saturday or Sunday, police say.
Pena was the mother of at least one child, who is in elementary school.
She was found by a passer-by on the coldest night of the year. At the time her body was found at about 3:20 a.m., along the side of Plainfield Road, temperatures had fallen to 2 degrees with a wind chill of negative 9, according to AccuWeather meteorologist Tom Kines.
“She deserves a lot more than for her life to end the way that it did. We want to know why she ended up here, alone and in the cold, deceased,” said Parks Miller.
An autopsy conducted by Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers did not reveal an immediate cause of death, and toxicology results are pending.
Police are working to put a time table together regarding Pena’s death. As the investigation continues to develop, they are also attempting to determine whether or not a crime was committed in relation to her death.
Ferguson Township police say they believe people in the area know her.
“We have information that she may have been living in Williamsport. She may know some people in State College, but we do not know why she was here,” said Parks Miller.
Pena is from the Philadelphia area.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 800-479-0050.
