If you are used to driving 35 mph on West College Avenue, you will want to check the speedometer.
Ferguson Township made changes to speed limits on that road Monday, dropping the legal speed down to 25 mph with new signs between Corl and Buckhout streets.
The move comes after talks for the West College Avenue Streetscape Improvement Project, the township said in a release Friday.
With that project, the municipality looks to “improve pedestrian safety in the West College Avenue corridor.” Because of that, the township says a neighborhood resident asked for consideration of a lower speed limit, noticing that drivers were traveling too fast for safety, especially for pedestrians crossing the street.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation authorized the change after a traffic study determined the lower speed was justified, Ferguson Township said.
