A Chi Phi Alpha Delta member was charged with assault after allegedly striking a fellow member with a bottle.
According to State College police, Norman McBride, 21, of Oreland, was at a Chi Phi fraternity gathering on Dec. 10. He was described as acting “aggressive and inappropriate, which is often a result of excessive alcohol consumption.”
A fellow member approached McBride and asked him to settle down or leave, police said. McBride allegedly picked up a champagne bottle and threatened that he would strike the member.
After a countdown from three, police said, McBride hit the member in the face with the bottle, causing a large gash, which required eight stitches to fix. It was also determined that the strike caused a fracture in his right orbital bone.
