Centre Hall woman assaulted nurse, police say

A Centre Hall woman faces felony assault charges after reportedly fighting with a nurse at The Meadows Behavioral Health Treatment Facility in Centre Hall.

According to the criminal complaint filed by state police at Rockview, the evening charge nurse was in the process of removing unauthorized items from the room assigned to Norma A. Rodriguez, 22, late Sunday when they became involved in a verbal argument.

The argument progressed, police said, and Rodriguez allegedly struck the nurse in the face with a closed fist, then grabbed her hair and pulled “out a large portion.” Additional employees attempted to assist the nurse, during which time she fell to the floor.

While on the floor, police said, Rodriguez kicked her in the chest, ribs and back. They were then separated.

A trooper met with the nurse early Monday at the Mount Nittany Medical Center emergency room, police said, where it was determined her left orbital bone had been shattered.

Rodriguez was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Thomas Jordan, according to court documents, and charged with one felony count of aggravated assault, a misdemeanor charge of simple assault and a summary count of harassment. Straight monetary bail was set at $25,000.

A preliminary hearing is slated for June 14.
