Man allegedly bit police officer while resisting arrest

A Delaware County man faces charges in Centre County after reportedly fighting with police late Friday night.

According to State College police, a State College officer and a liquor control officer responded at about 9:50 p.m. to Bill Pickle’s Tap Room at 106 S. Allen St. for a report of a Penn State student who had presented a fake ID. When officers confronted the 20-year-old from Lansdowne, about the ID, he reportedly ran toward the street.

Officers tackled the man, police said, where he continued to resist arrest. During the struggle, the man reportedly bit the State College officer in his right index finger.

He was eventually subdued and taken into custody, police said. The condition of the police officer was not known at press time.

The man was arraigned Saturday before District Judge Kelley Gillette-Walker, according to court documents, and charged with misdemeanor counts of simple assault, resisting arrest and false identification; and summary charges of carrying false identification and purchase of alcohol by a minor. Straight monetary bail was set at $75,000 and he was taken to the Centre County Correctional Facility.

A preliminary hearing is slated for Sept. 13.
