State College woman fraudulently used debit card, police say
A State College woman faces numerous charges after allegedly using a debit card she claims she found.
According to State College police, a woman contacted officers on Sept. 11 saying an unknown person had obtained her daughter’s debit card and made three unauthorized purchases. Card records reflected purchases made at a wine and spirits store, Pizza Hut — both in State College — and on Amazon.com.
The charges totaled about $102, police said. Records reportedly showed that the purchase made at the spirits store was made by a woman presenting a driver’s license for Jennifer R. Karim, 22.
Karim came to the State College police station on Sept. 13 and was questioned about the incident, police said. She allegedly initially denied involvement, but eventually confessed, saying she acquired the card at her place of employment and used it to make the three purchases.
Karim was arraigned via summons Friday by District Judge Carmine Prestia, according to court documents, and charged with several misdemeanor counts of theft by deception, receiving stolen property, unauthorized device access and bad checks. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 18.
