Clearfield woman accused of drug charges appears in court
A Clearfield woman accused of altering a prescription waived her right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday during centralized court in Clearfield County.
Denise Joleen Stephens, 20, was charged with a felony count of acquiring or obtaining a controlled substance by misrepresentation by state police after an incident on Aug. 29 in Decatur Township.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the pharmacist at CVS in Philipsburg told police that a woman allegedly altered her prescription for oxymorphine pills and tried to have it filled as she passed through the drive-thru window. When the pharmacist called the doctor to verify the script was for 45 pills, he was told the prescription was for just 15 pills, confirming the script had been altered.
The police spoke with Stephens in the parking lot, where she reportedly admitted she was trying to fill the prescription but claimed she did not realize it had been altered.
She said prior to getting to the drive-thru window, she was doodling with an ink pen while in the car and must have “accidentally” written on the script without knowing it, police said.
Stephens is free on $10,000, unsecured bail.
