Woman sentenced for smuggling drugs to inmate
A Coatesville woman accused of smuggling drugs into a local state prison was sentenced Tuesday in Clearfield County Court.
Amirrah Latays McMillen, 24, pleaded guilty to a felony count of contraband/controlled substance to inmate in connection with a May 6, 2016, incident during which she allegedly gave marijuana and pills to a Houtzdale state prison inmate.
Judge Paul E. Cherry sentenced McMillen to nine months to two years less one day in the county jail plus two years consecutive probation.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, a prison employee told a state trooper that they suspected McMillen had given an inmate drugs. When she was asked, she allegedly admitted to smuggling the drugs into the facility by concealing them inside her body. After she gave the package of drugs to the inmate, he allegedly swallowed it.
McMillen further explained that when she picked up the package of drugs from an associate to deliver to the inmate, she was unaware what exactly was in the package. She said she did know it contained drugs, mainly marijuana.
A portion of the drugs was seized, but it was suspected that the inmate still had more contraband inside his body.
No charges have been filed against the inmate, according to court documents.
