Penn State teaching assistant faces charges after allegedly attacking educator

A Penn State teaching assistant faces an assault charge after allegedly attacking an educator.

According to Penn State police, a male reported on Oct. 17 that he had been assaulted at the Hosler Building where he teaches a class. At the end of class that day, he was reportedly approached by his graduate teaching assistant, Seung Y. Kim, 44, who allegedly objected to a homework assignment he had been asked to do.

The man stated Kim got “increasingly louder to the point he was yelling,” police said, and approached him in an “aggressive manner.” Kim then reportedly struck the man two to three times in the head with a closed fist.

The fighting continued with both of them falling to the floor, police said, where bystanders were able to separate them. Two witnesses reportedly corroborated the man’s story.

Kim was arraigned via summons by District Judge Steven Lachman, according to court documents, and charged with a misdemeanor count of simple assault and a summary charge of harassment. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 29.
