Woman allegedly strikes boyfriend’s truck with baseball bat over text messages
An Ohio woman was arrested Wednesday in Centre County after allegedly retaliating against her boyfriend.
According to the criminal complaint filed by state police at Philipsburg, a trooper responded at about 8:50 a.m. to the 300 block of North 10th Street in Philipsburg for a report of an active domestic incident. On arrival, the trooper reported observing Jayme L. Miles, 19, of Stubenville, Ohio, with a wooden baseball bat in her hand.
Miles dropped the bat and was interviewed by the trooper, police said, and she stated that she and her boyfriend were visiting from Ohio. Earlier in the morning, she reportedly found text messages that he was cheating on her and a verbal argument ensued.
The argument progressed into a physical fight, police said, as Miles retrieved the baseball bat from the male’s truck and began to strike various body panels. As the male confronted her, she reportedly swung the bat, striking him in the forehead.
The boyfriend related the same events, police said, and the trooper reported observing swelling on his face and several dents on the sides and hood of the truck.
Miles was arraigned before District Judge Thomas Jordan, according to court documents, and charged with misdemeanor counts of simple assault and criminal mischief, and a summary charge of harassment. Straight monetary bail was set at $10,000.
A preliminary hearing is slated for Nov. 1.
