A man traveling through Centre County was recently stopped by state troopers on Interstate 80 for his vehicle having a dark window tint.
The traffic stop occurred at about 12:50 p.m. Tuesday near milemarker 155.8, which is between Snow Show and Milesburg.
Maurice Kaleel Avery, 22, of Philadelphia, cooperated with police. He told troopers he had smoked marijuana earlier in the day to explain the strong odor of it inside the vehicle. State troopers conducted a probable cause search when an additional trooper arrived minutes later as backup.
Troopers found a Taurus .380 handgun on the top of the center console, and the gun’s serial number was run through the National Crime Information Center data base, which showed the weapon had been stolen in 2015. Avery also did not have a concealed carry permit, according to the affidavit.
