The Centre County Sheriff’s Department is warning of scams claiming to be from a sheriff’s office.
According to a Tuesday news release, the office has been receiving several calls from individuals saying they have been scammed. The calls are said to have come from a number that appeared to be from the Bellefonte are and the scammers are representing themselves as either from the office or as a deputy.
The callers are telling the victims that there is a warrant for their arrest, the release said, and will ask to leave your name and call the local number. When the number is called back, it reportedly gives options to leave personal information.
The sheriff’s office would not contact anyone asking for personal or bank account information, the release said. If unsure, people are asked to contact the office at 355-6803 or a local law enforcement agency.
