Howard woman charged with assaulting state trooper

A Howard woman has been charged with felony assault after allegedly fighting with state troopers on Christmas Eve.

According to the criminal complaint filed by state police at Rockview, troopers were called to the Quality Inn in Boggs Township for a report of an intoxicated woman who was angry that she could not get into her room. Troopers made contact with Amy L. Crowley, 37, on arrival, who was described as “intoxicated and irate.”

Crowley stated she had been staying at the motel with another individual who had left, police said, and she became locked out. She was not on the reservation, police said, so she could not be allowed back into the room.

Troopers advised her that they could take her to a residence where she could be cared for, police said, but she continued to argue. She reportedly “made forward movement while yelling” at a trooper and was taken into custody.

She slipped her handcuffs while in the patrol unit, police said, and while being removed to be handcuffed again, she “actively resisted arrest” by kicking her legs and screaming vulgar language.

Crowley kicked on trooper in the leg while being handcuffed, police said, and attempted to spit on another trooper before being placed in the patrol car.

She was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Allen Sinclair, according to court documents, and charged with a felony count of aggravated assault and misdemeanor charges of simple assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Unsecured bail was set at $25,000.

A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 31.
