Man charged with homicide by vehicle appears in court

All charges against a Madera man accused of driving under the influence when he was involved in a fatal crash were held to court Wednesday after a preliminary hearing in Clearfield County.

Gregory Allen Millinder Jr., 32, was traveling south on state Route 53 in Woodward Township, Clearfield County, on July 2 when his 2012 Jeep Wrangler crossed the double lines into the northbound lane and struck a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette, police said. The Corvette went a short distance before stopping. Two people in this vehicle reportedly suffered minor injuries.

The Jeep then continued to travel in the wrong lane and impacted a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air head-on, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Mary Terese Caprio, who was a passenger in the Bel Air, was pronounced dead at the scene. Gary Kenneth Stover, the driver, suffered serious injuries and was flown to a hospital for treatment, police said. Millinder’s 8-year-old daughter, who was in the back seat of his vehicle, was not injured, according to the criminal complaint.

Because Millinder was reportedly showing signs of impairment, officers transported him to the police station to beevaluated by a drug recognition expert, who determined he was intoxicated.

A blood test showed Millinder was under the influence of amphetamine, methamphetamine and clonazepam, according to the report.

Clearfield County Coroner Michael Morris reported Caprio’s death was the result of blunt force trauma to the chest caused by the crash.

Millinder is charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI, homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, DUI, involuntary manslaughter, endangering the welfare of children, and recklessly endangering another person.

District Judge Jerome Nevling listened to testimony from a witness who was in a vehicle behind Millinder at the time of the accident, the trooper who filed the charges and Clearfield County Coroner Kim Snyder before ruling that there was enough evidence to send the case on to the Court of Common Pleas.

Millinder’s bail is $100,000 which he has posted.
