Woman rushed at state trooper with a razor blade, police say

A Blair County woman is facing felony assault charges after allegedly attacking state police troopers Tuesday at her home.

According to state police at Hollidaysburg, troopers responded to the 100 block of Gospel Hollow Lane in Antis Township for a report of a criminal trespassing. There, the troopers interviewed Cheryl R. Hegarty, 49, in relation to the report.

When the troopers informed Hegarty that she was being arrested for criminal trespassing, she refused to verbal commands from the troopers, police said. She then reportedly grabbed a razor blade from a living room coffee table and rushed toward one of the troopers with the blade raised in her hand.

She continued to resist and struggle until she was handcuffed and placed under arrest, police said.

She was arraigned before District Judge Fred Miller on felony counts of aggravated assault and criminal trespassing, according to court documents, and misdemeanor charges of simple assault and resisting arrest. Bail was set at $30,000, and she was released on bond Wednesday.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 6.
