He tried to hide heroin after his arrest, officers say. They found some in the police car
A State College man was jailed Monday after state police at Rockview accused him of concealing 40 bags of heroin while he was in custody.
An officer who stopped Kevin Sherlock, 36, along Benner Pike because of an expired registration found a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Sherlock’s 2015 Hyundai SDN, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed Monday.
Sherlock, who exhibited several physical signs of drug use, admitted he had additional drugs and paraphernalia in his underwear, police wrote.
Sherlock was transported to the police barracks after blood tests at Mount Nittany Medical Center, but that’s when officers said they noticed him shuffling a plastic container in his hands while handcuffed.
Several bundles of heroin were found in his hands and strewn about the police car, police wrote. Sherlock later admitted to using heroin “a couple hours ago,” police wrote.
An attorney for Sherlock was not listed on a court document.
Sherlock was charged with 40 felony counts of possession with intent to deliver, 41 misdemeanor counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, 17 misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, one misdemeanor count each of DUI and evidence tampering, and three summary traffic citations.
He was arraigned Monday by District Judge Kelley Gillette-Walker, who set bail at $50,000. Sherlock did not post bail and is detained at the Centre County Correctional Facility.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 11.
