State College man faces charges after crystal meth, stolen gun found in apartment, police say
A State College man was jailed Thursday after borough police accused him of having more than $1,000 of crystal methamphetamine.
Joseph Chuba, 25, was stopped by police in March after officers observed several signs of drug activity, police wrote in an affidavit of probable cause filed Thursday.
A magazine with live 9 mm rounds and a glass pipe used to smoke crystal methamphetamine fell out of the vehicle when Chuba was asked to exit his vehicle, police wrote.
Officers also searched Chuba’s apartment, 128 S. Barnard St., and found marijuana, methamphetamine and crystal methamphetamine, police wrote. Chuba was accused of possessing about 14.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine.
A .22-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun, which was reported stolen from a Blair County home, was also found in Chuba’s apartment, police wrote.
An attorney for Chuba was not listed on a court document.
He was charged with one felony count each of receiving stolen property, theft and possession with intent to deliver. He was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was arraigned Thursday by District Judge Steven Lachman, who set bail at $25,000. Chuba did not post bail and is detained at the Centre County Correctional Facility.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
