Child porn was ‘the easiest way to go to jail,’ Centre County man allegedly told police

A Spring Township man was jailed Thursday after state police said he made a chilling admission about downloading child pornography because it was “the easiest way to go to jail.”

The agency’s computer crime unit began its investigation in April after a pornographic video with two children was uploaded to the internet, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed Thursday.

Officers tracked the video to David A. Young, 25, and served a search warrant Thursday morning at his Lower Coleville Road residence.

Young told officers “the porn you are looking for is upstairs and I just downloaded more for you,” according to the affidavit.

Young said he began downloading child porn in February and knew police would come, but was “tired of living this life” and downloading child porn was the easiest route to jail, police wrote.

Police searched Young’s computer and found 228 images that depicted the sexual abuse of female infants and toddlers, police wrote. Additional files will “likely” be obtained after a full forensic exam, police wrote.

Young, who did not have a lawyer listed on a court document, was charged with 228 felony counts of child pornography.

He was arraigned Thursday by District Judge Kelley Gillette-Walker, who set bail at $75,000. Young did not post bail and is detained at the Centre County Correctional Facility.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
