Employee accused of stealing nearly $100,000 from State College store, police say

A Get Wireless employee was arraigned Monday on charges he stole nearly $96,000 from the company and spent it on numerous Amazon purchases and withdrawals from PayPal.

An audit completed last summer found the money was missing, and two of the three debit cards used to make the transactions were issued solely to Matthew English, State College police wrote in an affidavit of probable cause.

English, 33, of Clearfield County, is accused of borrowing the third card from another employee. The purchases date back to 2018, police wrote.

Traveler’s Insurance reimbursed the company for the full amount, police wrote. English has not spoke to police about the allegations, and failed to show up for a scheduled meeting, police wrote.

A defense lawyer for English was not listed on a court document. Get Wireless did not immediately respond Tuesday to request for comment.

English was charged with one felony count each of theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception and receiving stolen property.

He was arraigned by District Judge Tom Jordan, who released English on $50,000 unsecured bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 12.
