Employee stole more than $27,000 from State College restaurant, police say

A former Five Guys store manager was arraigned Wednesday on allegations he stole more than $27,000 from the American restaurant in downtown State College.

An audit completed earlier this year found about 50 cash deposits were missing between September and January, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed Monday by borough police.

Alvin George, who was responsible for the business’ closing procedure, is accused of creating false bank receipts to show documented proof of a deposit without making a transaction.

George, 42, of Clinton County, accused a co-worker in an interview with police of framing him. An officer found George’s claim was inaccurate, writing that the co-worker rarely completed deposits and was out of the state when several of the thefts were reported.

A defense lawyer for George was not listed on a court document.

George was charged with one felony count each of forgery and theft by unlawful taking.

He was arraigned by District Judge Don Hahn, who released George, pending his appearance at future court proceedings. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
