State College couple face felony child abuse charges

A State College couple was accused Wednesday of physically abusing a teenager for about six months and telling the teen to lie to doctors, police and Centre County Children and Youth Services about the alleged abuse.

The teen reported in January violent abuse that led to injuries, including bruises and blurred vision, borough police wrote in an affidavit of probable cause filed Wednesday.

Marianne Parks, 39, was accused of being the most physically aggressive, with acts including using a large, braided belt on the torso and putting water on the teen’s skin to “make the strikes hurt more,” the teen reported to police.

Jeremy Sanchez, 33, was accused of failing to intervene and occasionally striking the teenager.

Defense lawyer Steve Trialonas did not immediately respond Thursday to requests for comment.

The teenager was placed in the CYS custody the day she reported the alleged abuse, police wrote.

Parks was charged with one felony count of child endangerment, four misdemeanor counts of simple assault and five summary counts of harassment.

Sanchez was charged with one felony count of child endangerment and one summary count of harassment.

Each were arraigned Wednesday by District Judge Don Hahn, who released them pending their appearance at a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 24.
