State College police respond to shooting, overdose, crashes over holiday weekend
The State College Police Department responded to several “critical calls” over the Fourth of July weekend, including an unintentional shooting.
The shooting was reported about 7:55 p.m. Saturday along the 1300 block of Dreibelbis Street. A 26-year-old was shot in the neck by a friend who was handling a .45-caliber Colt semiautomatic handgun, police wrote.
The 26-year-old was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Altoona and is in stable condition, police wrote.
Less than three hours after the shooting, about 9:30 p.m., officers responded to 397 Benner Pike for a report of a motorcycle being struck by a car. The motorcycle driver was treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center for a shoulder injury, police wrote.
The bustling weekend continued Sunday, when officers responded about 3 a.m. to Boalsburg’s center square for a report of a vehicle crashing into a fountain.
Charges are pending against the driver, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, police wrote.
Officers also responded about 11:20 p.m. Friday to the 1000 block of South Allen Street and found a 32-year-old man in cardiac arrest. Police and Centre LifeLink EMS administered Narcan, revived him and transported him to Mount Nittany Medical Center, where he is expected to recover, police wrote.
