Bellefonte man faces charges after State College police say he raped a co-worker
A Bellefonte man was accused Wednesday of raping a co-worker at her State College apartment.
Maurice Mayes, 36, was one of two co-workers who escorted the intoxicated woman to her apartment in December, State College police wrote in an affidavit of probable cause filed Wednesday.
One on-duty co-worker left after carrying the woman into her apartment, but Mayes remained and is accused of raping her, police wrote.
The woman woke up disrobed the next day and went to Mount Nittany Medical Center for a sexual assault examination. DNA collected from the examination matched Mayes’ DNA, police wrote.
A lawyer for Mayes was not listed on a court document. He was charged with one felony count each of rape and sexual assault.
He was arraigned Wednesday by District Judge Don Hahn, who released Hayes on $50,000 unsecured bail. Hayes’ preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26.
