Bellefonte man charged in crash that seriously injured motorcycle passenger in Milesburg

A Bellefonte man was charged Friday in connection with a two-vehicle crash in Milesburg that seriously injured one woman.

A motorcycle driven by Jeremy Gardner, 42, struck a Kia Soul about 8:40 p.m. June 2019 along the 300 block of Turnpike Street, state police at Rockview wrote in an affidavit of probable cause filed Friday.

Both Gardner and his passenger were flown by medical helicopter to an out-of-county hospital for treatment. Gardner’s passenger was treated for a cervical fracture, spinal fracture, femur fracture and an open tibial wound, police wrote.

Gardner’s blood alcohol content was between 0.108% and 0.112% at the time of the crash, police wrote. The legal threshold for DUI in Pennsylvania is 0.08%.

Gardner did not immediately respond to a request for a comment. A defense lawyer was not listed on a court document.

Gardner was charged with two felony counts of accidents involving injury while not licensed, one felony count of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, two misdemeanor counts of DUI, one misdemeanor count of a blood alcohol content of greater than 0.02% and five summary traffic violations.

He was arraigned Friday by District Judge Kelley Gillette-Walker, who released Gardner on $500,000 unsecured bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 7.
