Centre County man pleads guilty to raping, sexually assaulting 6 women over last decade

A Patton Township man pleaded guilty Tuesday to raping and sexually assaulting six women over the course of nine years, an agreement that would send him to state prison for at least a decade.

Kevin P. Mullen, 50, pleaded guilty to one felony count each of rape, attempted rape and aggravated indecent assault. Twenty charges were dropped.

Mullen’s minimum prison sentence would be 10 years; the maximum would be 25 years. The agreement also requires 20 years of probation and a lifetime registration as a sex offender.

Assistant Chief Deputy Attorney General Daniel J. Dye said the women OK’d the agreement.

Mullen said little during the hearing, only answering routine questions from Centre County Judge Jonathan Grine. Defense lawyers Steve Trialonas and Helen Stolinas declined comment after the hearing.

“Kevin Mullen pleaded guilty to committing violent sexual crimes against multiple women, after luring them to his home under false pretenses,” state Attorney General Josh Shapiro said in a statement. “While there is no undoing the damage Mullen has caused, today’s guilty plea is a step toward justice for these women.”

Mullen met each of the women online, a township police detective wrote in an affidavit of probable cause. He met four through an online dating service, one through Craigslist and one through Facebook’s Messenger.

The first rape occurred in 2012. Five other rapes or sexual assaults occurred between 2017 and March 2021, police wrote. Mullen carried out the attacks inside his home.

Each of the women told investigators of similar statements Mullen made during the rapes or sexual assaults. He told at least three women he raped others and had “gotten away with it,” police wrote.

After Mullen’s arrest in November 2021, police said they believed additional women may not have been identified. No additional charges were filed. It was unclear if others came forward.

Mullen is detained at the Centre County Correctional Facility. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 3.
