Boalsburg homeowner, State College police officer assaulted during alleged burglary

An older Boalsburg man and a State College police officer were assaulted Saturday after a teenager entered the man’s home before dawn, borough police wrote in a statement Tuesday.

The homeowner called 911 after he woke up about 5 a.m. Saturday to find an unknown 15-year-old inside his home along the 100 block of West Main Street, police wrote.

He was assaulted after confronting the Centre County teenager, police wrote. The man locked himself inside a bathroom and called for help.

The teenager did not listen to commands from police officers. He fled before charging at and assaulting an officer, police wrote. The teen was detained after he was shocked with a Taser stun gun.

It was the second time this year borough police deployed a Taser, borough police Capt. Greg Brauser wrote in a text message to the Centre Daily Times.

The teenager also attempted to assault workers at Mount Nittany Medical Center and a second officer, police wrote.

The homeowner was released from the hospital after being treated for facial injuries. Brauser described the police officer’s injuries as minor.

A written allegation — which works as a charging document against those younger than 18 in Pennsylvania — accused the teen of burglary, aggravated assault and more. He is detained at the Central Counties Youth Center. It was not immediately clear if he has a defense lawyer.

An investigation is ongoing. Those with information about attempted break-ins or other suspicious activity in the area may call police at 814-234-7150, email police@statecollegepa.us or submit an anonymous tip online.

Investigators also asked for assistance from any residents who have surveillance cameras. The department urged people to keep their homes locked, use exterior motion lights and immediately report any suspicious behavior.
