Bellefonte man headed to state prison for sexual assault of teenager in Centre County
A Bellefonte man was sentenced Tuesday to at least two years in state prison for having sex with a 14-year-old girl multiple times over a four-month period.
Akile S. Parker, 33, was sentenced by Centre County President Judge Jonathan Grine to a maximum of four years in prison. He received credit for more than 11 months served in the Centre County Correctional Facility.
Parker was also sentenced to three years of probation and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. He is required to complete Project Point of Light, a program that specializes in the assessment and treatment of sexual offenders.
He did not speak before his sentence was handed down. Defense lawyer Steve Trialonas only answered perfunctory questions from Grine.
The teenager told the Spring Township police detective in October 2022 that she and Parker had sex on a weekly basis for four months. Parker, police wrote in an affidavit of probable cause, told her to delete their text messages because of the investigation.
A search of Parker’s cellphone yielded a substantial amount of text messages between the two, including 361 pages of texts that discussed their sexual encounters, police wrote.
Parker pleaded guilty in July to two felony counts of statutory sexual assault, as well as one misdemeanor count of tampering with evidence. Six charges were dropped.
