Man charged after brief police chase in Centre County, accused of injuring two troopers
April 7, 2025 update: Nathan L. Folmar was sentenced March 28, 2025, by Centre County Judge Brian Marshall to 2 1/2 to five years in state prison. He pleaded guilty to felony counts of aggravated assault and fleeing, as well as a misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. The remaining charges were dropped.
A man was charged Wednesday after leading state police at Rockview on a brief chase in Centre County, one that left two troopers with minor injuries.
Nathan L. Folmar, 43, of Clearfield County, was to be served at least two warrants Wednesday morning, but police wrote in an affidavit of probable cause that he refused to leave the back seat of his vehicle.
One trooper broke a rear window with his baton. Another used his Taser, which was ineffective. Folmar then climbed into the driver’s seat, police wrote, and a second Taser was also ineffective.
One trooper was struck in the face by one of the vehicle’s mirrors as Folmar reversed and a second trooper was struck in his right eye by debris, police wrote. Both reported minor injuries, a police spokesperson wrote in a text message to the Centre Daily Times.
A third trooper jumped out of the way, police wrote. He was uninjured, the spokesperson wrote.
Folmar was accused of then driving into a field in Boggs Township. A chase ensued for about 1/4 of a mile until Folmar ran and was arrested, police wrote.
He was charged with three felony counts of aggravated assault, as well as a felony count of fleeing. He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and evading arrest.
No defense lawyer was listed. The Centre County Public Defender Office said it not was appointed to represent Folmar as of Wednesday afternoon.
Folmar was denied bail by District Judge Allen Sinclair. He is incarcerated at the Centre County Correctional Facility. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 27.
