A former NFL player was charged Thursday with drunken driving after local police said he crashed his car and told an officer he recently drank at the Champs in downtown State College.

Juqua D. Parker, 47, of Huntingdon County, crashed about 1:45 a.m. March 29 along the 3200 block of West Pine Grove Road, Ferguson Township police wrote in an affidavit of probable cause.

An officer said the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette had “severe disabling damage.” The steering wheel airbag deployed, as well another from the center console. The passerby who reported the crash said Parker was attempting to drive away from the scene, police wrote.

Parker said he was heading home from Champs after having two drinks, police wrote. The officer said Parker had bloodshot and watery eyes, smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests.

He had a blood alcohol content of 0.160%, twice the legal limit. Parker was charged by summons with two misdemeanor counts of DUI. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 2.

No defense lawyer was listed and a phone number listed for Parker was not accepting phone calls Friday.

Parker played 12 seasons as a defensive end in the NFL, tallying 42 1/2 sacks and 266 tackles for the Tennessee Titans, Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns. The 2012 season was his last.

Parker moved to central Pennsylvania more than a decade ago, where he operated the gym Power Train Sports & Fitness in State College, the Altoona Mirror reported in 2023. The gym closed last year.
