Man arrested, accused of breaking into and ransacking a Centre County creamery
A man arrested before dawn Friday was accused of breaking into a popular creamery in Centre County, emptying its cash drawers and ransacking its cabinets.
Christopher M. Galick, 38, of Pennsylvania, was charged with felony counts of burglary, criminal trespassing and theft after state police at Rockview said he broke into The Dairy Barn, aka Nittany Valley Creamery.
The business owner called police about 4:50 a.m. Friday after he spotted Galick, who said he was cleaning because he worked there. Galick later falsely told a trooper he owned the business and was arrested, police wrote in an affidavit of probable cause.
A trooper said Galick hid nearly $7,000 in a freezer. He also cleaned out entire cabinets of cups, made milkshakes and then put some of the business’ property in garbage bags, police wrote.
Galick repeatedly said he or his grandmother owned the property at 5565 Jacksonville Road in Marion Township — while describing the actual owner as a “crazy person,” a trooper said.
Galick, police wrote, appeared to have possible mental health issues. No defense lawyer was listed and the Centre Public Defender Office said it did not represent him as of Friday afternoon.
He was arraigned by District Judge Casey McClain, who set bail at $100.000. Galick is incarcerated at the Centre County Correctional Facility. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
