State College police said Friday that charges are pending after what the department described as a middle-of-the-night home invasion in which the residents fought off the intruder.

Officers were dispatched about 2 a.m. Friday to Crabapple Drive for a reported burglary, police wrote in a press release. With the help of Ferguson and Patton township police, a suspect was taken into custody about 2:35 a.m. several blocks away.

Borough police shared those details about three hours after State College Area School District told parents and guardians the incident happened away from the State High campus.

The district said it “never had anything to do with our campus, students, faculty or staff.” Each of the district’s schools operated Friday on a normal schedule.

State College police encouraged anyone with information about the alleged burglary to call 814-234-7150, email police@statecollegepa.us or submit an anonymous tip online.
