State College man accused of pushing woman, kicking her in the face
A State College man was arrested Saturday after a woman told police he pushed her to the ground and then kicked her in the face.
Garrett T. Choates, 21, was charged with a felony count of aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of simple assault, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He’s also facing a summary harassment charge.
The woman told police she and Choates were arguing about 1 a.m. Saturday inside an apartment along the 1000 block of South Pugh Street, an officer wrote in an affidavit of probable cause.
She told the officer she tried to walk away from Choates, but he kicked her door open and pushed her. She fell onto a small trampoline before Choates kicked her in the face, police wrote.
The officer said the woman had significant swelling on her face, along with a small abrasion. A window was broken, the woman’s cellphone and laptop were damaged, her belongings were thrown around and a television appeared to be thrown into a mirror, police wrote.
Choates admitted to a verbal altercation and throwing the television, but denied any physical altercation, police wrote. An officer said one of Choates’ socks was bloody.
No defense lawyer was listed and the Centre County Public Defender Office said it was not representing Choates as of Monday afternoon.
He was arraigned Saturday by District Judge Don Hahn, who set bail at 3% of $37,500. He is incarcerated at the Centre County Correctional Facility and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 13.
