Woman charged with dragging 1-year-old into medical facility near State College
A woman was charged Thursday with felony child endangerment after State College police said she dragged a 1-year-old into and across the floor of a medical facility, leaving the toddler with abrasions and redness on his head and neck.
Taylor M. Garret, 25, of Clinton County, was charged after multiple witnesses reported her dragging the child about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday into a Geisinger Scenery Park office, borough police wrote in an affidavit of probable cause.
Garret was walking into the facility with two young children, including the 1-year-old who was wearing a toddler backpack harness, police wrote. An officer said closed-circuit television footage showed Garret using the leash to pull the toddler up the stairs while using her foot to push him over the step.
Once inside the facility, police said Garret dragged the child while he was face down behind her. She was also accused of pulling him while the harness clip was around the front of his neck, police wrote.
A witness later told an officer she saw Garret push the toddler with two hands while in an examination room, causing him to fall to the floor. Garret is also facing a misdemeanor count of simple assault.
No defense lawyer was listed and a message left Thursday evening with a phone number listed for Garret was not immediately returned.
She was arraigned by District Judge Allen Sinclair, who released her on $25,000 unsecured bail. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
