Centre County man faces new charges after voyeurism conviction in South Carolina
A Centre County man is facing misdemeanor charges after a woman told police he secretly took dozens of sexually explicit photos and videos of her and shared them online with other men.
Steven Guthoff, 64, of College Township, was charged in May with misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy and unlawful dissemination of an intimate image. He waived his preliminary hearing last week and remains free on $5,000 unsecured bail.
He’s accused of committing the crimes in July 2023, about a year after he retired from the State College Area School District. During his time with the district, he was a longtime guidance counselor and a football coach.
The district said Wednesday it does not comment on legal matters related to former employees. Defense lawyer Stephanie Cooper declined comment when reached by the Centre Daily Times.
The woman told a State College police detective in November 2024 that she found a camera and numerous portable electronic storage devices hidden throughout their South Carolina home, according to an affidavit of probable cause. She said the devices contained sexually explicit images of her and Guthoff, which he is accused of sharing through social media and online chat rooms.
According to the affidavit, some videos showed Guthoff and the other men masturbating while they viewed the images. Guthoff was convicted in November of aggravated voyeurism in South Carolina.
A borough police detective later reviewed the images with the woman, who said she recognized 43 sexually explicit photos and videos were created inside Guthoff’s home in College Township.
His next court appearance is scheduled for July 15.
