Icy roads greet holiday travelers
Motorists on Centre Hall Mountain and various other parts of the county were met with icy roads Tuesday morning, a PennDOT dispatcher said.
Dispatcher Kevin Lingle said rain turned to snow and then froze, creating icy roadways on state Routes 45 and 144, Axemann and Jacksonville roads and on some bridges along Interstate 80.
“The temperatures kept going up and down,” he said. “It’s just the way it hit.”
There were some minor vehicle accidents as a result, he said. No accident reports for those roadways in Centre County were released by state police on Tuesday.
A handful of extra crews were called out beginning at 4 a.m., with a second wave about 8 a.m. to clear the roadways.

According to police, someone smashed the drive-through window of the pharmacy just after 1 a.m. but was denied access because of a second locked window gate.
