State College police report a second case of ice sculpture vandalism

State College police on Saturday reported another act of vandalism to downtown ice sculptures.

Lt. Brad Smail said an unknown person or group of people damaged an ice sculpture near 100 W. Foster Ave., which served as a piggy bank for people to donate money to the First Night State College organization.

The organization reported to police that about $300 was taken, Smail said.

Smail said that number was a guess based on what the group raised during last year’s event. The group did not report this year’s total.

The incident was reported to police early Friday morning.

This is the second report of unknown suspects damaging ice sculptures this year.

The first came Friday when the State College Municipal Building surveillance camera caught an unknown person damaging at least five ice sculptures set up near the building on South Allen Street.

The ice sculptures are displayed annually downtown for First Night State College — an event that celebrates the new year.
