Ferguson Township police investigating homicide
The death of a woman found dead in a Pine Grove Mills home Thursday afternoon was classified as a homicide.
A report from Ferguson Township police said they responded at about 2:47 p.m. to 175 Irion St. and found Jean Tuggy, 61, deceased inside the home.
Police said the body was initially discovered by a friend of the victim who went to check on her welfare, and then called police.
A four-hour autopsy conducted Friday determined the death was a homicide, Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers said.
On Saturday, Sayers told the CDT there were wounds on the victim’s body that helped him determine the death was not an accident.
“There was some trauma to the body,” Sayers said. “There was injury to the body, it was obvious, and it’s still an ongoing investigation.”
Sayers said he couldn’t give specific details that might compromise the investigation.
There was no sign of forced entry to the home, and robbery does not appear to be a motive, police said.
Police and Centre County dispatchers would not answer questions related to the investigation Saturday morning.
The Centre County District Attorney’s Office and the state police are assisting the investigation.
Police are asking anyone with information to call Ferguson Township police at 800-479-0050.
