Centre County DA Stacy Parks Miller originally said police are offering a $1000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the murder case of Jean Tuggy. The reward has now been increased to $5000.

The Centre County commissioners unanimously approved increasing the reward in an unsolved killing on Tuesday.

The reward has stood at $1,000 since last week when District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller announced it. The commissioners upped the ante for anyone with tips that could lead to an arrest, adding $4,000 to the bounty.

The additional $4,000 will be awarded “in accordance with the standards and conditions set forward by the Centre County Crimestoppers,” Commissioner Steve Dershem said.

“Hopefully, that’s enough seed money out there to generate some interest and concern,” Dershem said. “If there’s someone who needs to come forward, we would certainly appreciate any information that would lead to an arrest in Jean Tuggy’s murder.”

Tuggy, 60, of Pine Grove Mills was found dead in her home by two friends on Jan. 21. Authorities say she was shot, but little other information has been forthcoming.

Parks Miller believes that someone in the area has information that could help the case.

“Somebody knows and somebody owes it to this woman to help,” Parks Miller said last week. “Put your tip through Crimestoppers. Do the right thing.”
