Underage driver sends troopers on chase down Atherton Street

Two teenagers led state police at Philipsburg on a high speed chase Wednesday.

Police say they attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Interstate 99 at midnight.

Shortly after the vehicle reached speeds of more than 100 mph, it crashed into a road sign, but it didn’t stop and proceeded off the highway and onto North Atherton Street.

Police later found the vehicle to be operated by a juvenile. There were two occupants in the car, a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old.

According to a press release, once the operator directed the vehicle onto North Atherton Street, it traveled in the wrong direction until being stopped and the two teens taken into custody.

The investigation is ongoing.
