Pa. man allegedly steals car, loaded rifle from Missouri

During a routine traffic stop Tuesday on Interstate 80 in Boggs Township, state police pulled over a man driving a stolen vehicle with Missouri plates.

Inside the 2005 Toyota Tundra, police found Richard Norman Bauder, 48, of Bethlehem.

According to police, Bauder was in possession of marijuana, a stolen, loaded rifle and a magazine packing 24 rounds.

Police say the vehicle’s owner, who lives in Missouri, told them he never gave Bauder permission to take the vehicle out of state.

Bauder was subsequently taken into custody after also admitting that the gun was not his, according to police.

The owner of the gun told police that his rifle was missing from his closet and that he had never given Bauder permission to take it.

Bauder was arraigned Tuesday at District Judge Kelley Gillette-Walker’s office. He’s facing numerous charges including two felony counts of receiving stolen property and three misdemeanors, possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Bauder was transported to the Centre County jail after failing to post bail, which Gillette-Walker set at $100,000.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday.
