Medical helicopter called for motorcycle crash

A medical helicopter was called to the scene of a motorcycle crash at the 2800 block of Jacksonville Road in Spring Township.

Police were called at about 12:50 p.m., but it is unknown when the crash occurred. The motorcycle and its driver, a man, were off the road and in a ditch, according to Howard Fire Company Chief Tim Flick.

“I couldn’t tell you the exact extent of his injuries,” Flick said. “He had a busted up leg and was very, very disoriented. He wasn’t wearing a helmet.”

Flick said the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

“He was probably going too fast at the bend,” Flick said. “About 90 percent of our crashes are at the turn because people are going too fast. The road slopes down for a while, and that’s a big downgrade. They pick up speed and end up going too fast.”

Howard and Walker fire company firefighters responded to the crash.

A medical helicopter took the man at about 1:45 p.m. to an unknown hospital.
